What is the difference between a thingamojig and a thingamobob?

None! . They're both 'Whatchamacallits".

A thingamojig is the apparatus used to perform nano measurements with the dual slit diffraction principle, whereas, a thingamobob is used to keep the door from slamming shut.

The thingamojig is for holding the dohicky so it can be worked on. the thingamobob is for mesuring the dohicky to make sure its plumb.

It's not as much a difference as it is a ratio....

It's the same as a "Thing-y" but sounds better.
