Is space exploration more important than sorting out local earthbound problems? And the reason?

I'll admit up front that I've been a sci-fi fan for more than 45 years...

Both are important, If we made a big run on space, say a Jacobs Ladder, a railgun launcher, and a full sized L-5, there would be enouph work to employ millions. Meanwhile if we built Wind, Solar, and Tidal power plants, more millions would be employed. It should be done with private capital. This would put dollars back to work, and create a new batch of billionares.

  • Absolutely. After we totally screw up the planet Earth, we need another place to go and screw things up. Uranus is already totally f&@#ed so how's Pluto this time of year?

  • I don't know if space exploration is 'more important' than sorting out other earthbound problems, but I think there is definitely a need for it.
Adding to our overall knowledge base can only benefit us in the long run.

  • Exploration is needed for someone to boldly go where no man has ever gone before.

  • Think what we learned from our early space explorations: Tang, Velcro, and that the moon was definitely not made of green cheese.
We got tired of Tang; Velcro is still in use; we haven't been back to the moon.
